Renting Water Craft
Here are some sources and thought starters on where to rent your own boat:
- Look in the local yellow pages under "Marina"
- go to a lake or beach area and stop at the local marina
- look on the side roads around the marina for smaller operations
- "bareboat" sailboat charters usually require a captains license
- make sure the local rental agency complies with laws such as providing PFD's (Personal Flotation Devices)
- Jet skis and other personal watercraft are fun but can be very dangerous. Wear helmets.
- Jet skis are also a sound pollution nuisance, so be sensitive to others
- Pontoon boats are a non intrusive, motorized rental boat of choice
- Sea kayaks are a great non-motorized alternative
- Small lake kayaks are great fun for day trips and water picnics
- Check local outdoor stores for kayak and canoe rentals rates
- Canoes hold lots more weight than kayaks (coolers, dogs, etc.)
- Any novice whitewater boating should only be done with qualified outfitters
- Whitewater boating is very dangerous. Never exceed your skill level.
